THE LIVING STAGE: body, mask and puppet
FREE Intensive Theatre Workshop
Led by Claudio Colombo
From 23 to 27 April 2025 | BRAT venue, Porpetto (Udine)
A voyage through body, mask, and puppet theatre to rediscover the expressive power of movement and uncover the principles behind every genre of theatre.
The pre-expressive mask provides a way for people to rediscover the body as a scenic instrument and the theater as a play. Thanks to the lack of expression, gestures are amplified and tensions are revealed. Each action acquires meaning, and space becomes a place to live with awareness.
Through a process of listening and transformation, the actor becomes a malleable substance, a blank page on which any story can take shape, whether with or without a mask. The mask moves towards organicity, synthesis, and precision, improving scenic sensitivity and presence.
After a intense physical session, we will explore how the mask can become alive through breath, which is a fundamental principle of the stage. Through rhythm, form, and movement, we aim to uncover a universal language that comes from the essence of the body, one that transcends linguistic and cultural barriers, where action becomes speech and absence becomes presence.
The path will continue to explore puppet theatre, examining the connections between movement, mask, and figure. By transferring movement from the body to the object, we can animate the inanimate and bring life to what appears soulless.
