Research

A key part of the Limitless project is the research on inclusive performance, carried out by Ukrainian director Kateryna Lukianenko. Her study develops an innovative theatrical approach that makes theatre an accessible and engaging experience for everyone, regardless of physical or cultural differences.
To make her work available to a wider audience, Limitless has published it in English, Slovenian, and Italian, with the goal of encouraging intercultural dialogue and promoting greater inclusivity in the international theatre scene.

The text is Kateryna Lukianenko’s doctoral dissertation, titled: Characteristics of creating a performance taking into account the perception of blind and visually impaired audiences in puppet theatre.” The research addresses the theme of inclusion in Ukraine at a historical moment marked by the growing number of people with disabilities as a result of the war. Starting from social data and analysis, the study explores the role of inclusive theatre as a tool to break down barriers, reduce isolation, and build a fairer and more democratic society. A special focus is placed on the perception of blind and visually impaired spectators, through the analysis of techniques, stage languages, and adaptations that make a complete and participatory theatre experience possible. The theoretical work comes together with a remarkable practical example: the creation, for the first time in Ukraine, of a sensory theatre performance designed for this audience, Хто росте у парку (Khto roste u parku, Who Grows in the Park). The research is valuable both as an original contribution to the study of inclusion in contemporary theatre and as a practical resource. It offers concrete tools for directors, actors, and educators, opening up new possibilities for a future where theatre truly belongs to everyone.
