Claudio Colombo
He graduated in 2014 from the Accademia Teatrale Veneta in Venice. He then specialised in mask theatre and learned the art of the mask maker. He studied puppet construction and animation at the Atelier delle Figure in Faenza. He deepened his study of movement through the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System.
Together with Agata Garbuio, in 2015 he founded the company BRAT with which he realises shows, workshops, cultural projects and with which he won the Premio Scenario Infanzia 2022 with the show “Nunc”, which he directed, then produced by the Teatro Metastasio in Prato.
Since 2016 he has been collaborating with the Scottish performers group Secret Ministry and since 2018 with the company Pantakin from Venice, with which he performs in Italy and Europe, taking part in several shows.
In 2018 he is an actor and maskmaker in the Dutch production “The Tragedy of Claudius M” by Stichting Musica in Scena in collaboration with The Hague Conservatory, touring Northern Europe. He also works with directors G. Bonanni and F. Accomando and with the Conservatorio B. Marcello in Venice.
He creates masks and puppets for several theatre companies and organisations including BRAT, Teatro la Fenice, Pantakin, Teatro Cristallo in Bolzano. Since 2019, he has been developing research on contemporary anthropomorphic masks in collaboration with Teatro del Sangro for shows produced by Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo.
Since 2016 he has dedicated himself to teaching, an activity that leads him to collaborate with different realities and institutions including the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, Scotland, for which he leads mask theatre courses aimed at students, amateurs and professionals. In summer 2019 he is assistant to M. M. Casarin at the Master of Commedia dell’Arte at the National University of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest. In summer 2021 for the project “Fri.Co – Friuli in Commedia” financed by the FVG Region, together with M. M. Casarin he holds Commedia dell’Arte courses in Bucharest at Teatrul Podul and Breasla Actorilor. He is trainer and assistant director in the contemporary circus creation produced by Muja Buskers Festival 2021 in collaboration with Flic Circus School. In January 2022 he leads intensive workshops on the universal mask, in collaboration with a.ArtistiAssociati in Gorizia. In January 2024 he is among the teachers of the Perfomer specialisation course of the Progetto Te.S.eO – Teatro Scuola e Occupazione del Teatro Stabile del Veneto – National Theatre.
From 2019 he teaches at the Accademia C. Goldoni of the Teatro Stabile del Veneto – National Theatre.
Since 2022, he has been co-artistic director of the Epicentrico festival.
